Job Description: Full Time News Director

Across the two Seaton family news media properties in Manhattan (News Radio KMAN and The Manhattan Mercury), we are building a 21st century local media ecosystem, grounded in the Seaton family legacy. The product will be independent, professional journalism, a trusted source for verified facts and community accountability.

We will build a workplace where collaboration between print and broadcast journalists will be the expectation and the norm. As we succeed, the lines between “broadcast” and “print” will become purposefully blurry.

One newsroom will be created, combining the human resources currently gathering news separately for The Mercury and News Radio KMAN. We will create an infrastructure by enhancing existing vehicles (newspaper, terrestrial radio) and creating new ones (combined website/app, social media) to deliver the product.

We will design and establish newsroom protocols. Careful thought and planning will go into the writing and presentation, in addition to the chronology and structure of the delivery of a product delivered through a host of disparate media.

  • Collaborate with other journalists in the Seaton Media system in Manhattan on developing, writing and delivering enterprise journalism.
  • Serve as the point person for radio news on the project team that will establish the new protocols.
  • Serve as the person/subject matter expert within this group on radio news.

Specific/required tasks and status quo

  • Produce and execute news cast on KMAN and other stations as needed.
  • Hire and train part time news staff.
  • Have a desire to succeed, be a team player and make our business better.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of broadcast news experience is preferred but not required.
  • The ability to produce top-flight journalism.
  • Build positive relationships in the area and region.
  • Have a valid driver’s license.
